	BENJAMIN TITUS ROBERTS (1823-93) and other ministers formed the Free Methodist Church of North America in 1860, of which he was general superintendent from 1860 to 1893. He advocated not only ordination of women, but also free pews in the church, freedom from slavery, freedom from oath-bound societies, and holy life.
