Most paintings of Pentecost show only the 12 apostles with Mary, the mother of Christ. Yet in scripture we read:
With them were some women and also Mary, the mother of Jesus, and his brothers. When the day of Pentecost came, they were all together in one place. And suddenly out of the sky came a sound like a strong ruching wind and it filled the whole house where they were sitting. There appeared tongues of fire which parted and came to rest upon each of them. Acts 1:14; 2:1-3
This painting of Pentecost shows a group of men, women, and children gathered in the upper room in Jerusalem. All are in traditional Jewish dress, with the men wearing the distinctive prayer shawls and Tefellin straps on their left forearms.
