Sexual Trafficking, Prostitution, and the Global Sex Industry
recording by Lisa Thompson

Sex industrial centers and zones span the globe. Like any industry, the sex industry depends upon both supply and demand. Its product—the sexual services of mostly women and children—is in high demand around the world. This presentation will discuss the many forms and fronts of the sex industry, how the sex industry maintains its supply of women and children, and explain the primary and cultural-based factors that drive demand for commercial sex. Listeners will also learn about the multiple and complex harms to individuals caught up in the sex industry. The discussion will conclude with a review of ways that participants may get involved in the movement which is seeking to eradicate sexual trafficking and commercial sexual exploitation.

LISA L. THOMPSON is the liaison for the Abolition of Sexual Trafficking for The Salvation Army USA National Headquarters. In this role, she develops and coordinates strategies for The Salvation Army to create recovery services for survivors of sexual trafficking. Before working with The Salvation Army, Ms. Thompson served as Policy Representative for the National Association of Evangelicals' Office for Governmental Affairs in Washington, DC.
