Who is Paul responding to in verses 36-37 of 1 Corinthians 14? Scholar, Joachim Jeremias, has described four “markers” that identified the Scribes of Pauls day. These are the four descriptors used by Paul! Continuing the line of study followed in Think Again Book 6, it becomes clear that verses 34-35 are not Pauls words at all. He quotes them only to reject them and those who advocated them. By misunderstanding this passage, many modern Christians have fallen into the ironic position of advocating legalisms advanced by the Judaizers.
